Found a couple interesting satellite images from the past couple years.
- Satellite Images: Typhoon pongsona (31w) near northern mariana islands. Yes, the infamous Pongsona that wreaked such havoc on the island in December 2002. I still shudder thinking about that one. I’m pretty sure this photo was taken on the morning of December 7th, probably just about the time I was checking the satellite loop and realizing the direness of the situation.
- Satellite Images: Eruption of anatahan volcano, northern mariana islands. And here’s a good view of the volcanic smog and haze that I was complaining about a couple months ago. It’s pretty easy to see how the haze and ash distribute across the area, drifting downwind towards Rota and Guam.
There are a few other interesting photos from the Marianas area available on the site, mostly typhoons and tropical storms.
