Ukiyo-e Sunday

Inside Kameido Tenjin Shrine
Inside Kameido Tenjin Shrine, from the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo by Utagawa Hiroshige, 1856.

And a very special thank you to Dianne for bringing me back a full color Mita Arts Gallery catalog from her recent trip to Tokyo and Sapporo. It is an excellent catalog, though the photos are too small to scan successfully. I spent most every lunch hour last week peering through its pages. Domo arigato gozaimasu Dianne-san.

I decided to check out this blog from Josie’s page. Neat stuff.

I also admire Hiroshige’s work. 32 views of Mt. Fuji — awesome. There was another artist who did a series of views, again of Fuji San but can’t recall his name.

    Omoshiroii, ne?

P.S. Good luck with the radio show tomorrow!

Katsushika Hokusai produced the 36 Views of Mount Fuji in 1832. His most famous print of that series is the Great Wave off Kanagawa.
