Kiribati Creates Marine Preserver

The Pacific island nation of Kiribati announced on March 28th the creation of a vast new marine preserve throughout the Phoenix Islands, instantly becoming the third largest preserve after the Great Barrier Reef and the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. The Phoenix Islands are very remote and populated by less than 50 people, so the impact of this preserve on human lives will be minimal. Yet the creation of the Phoenix Islands Protected Area will insure 71,300 square miles of marine habitat are preserved for the future. This is a very good thing.
